Can anyone tell me the name of this book?

A while back I read a three book series that I’ve been trying to find again. Each book is a standalone, but it’s about the same creatures. Basically there are bad guys that are sone kind of mage/monk people who ooze red liquid or something like that. There’s a group of beings that are beautiful and winged and sound like angels of some kind—they even live above the clouds. The mages cursed them for some reason into some sort of beast that has leathery wings and horns but is vaguely humanoid. They attack humans and turn them into themselves—they seen to have a drive to make more of themselves. In the first book, they attack a human town. One girl escapes, and hides in a big house. They come to live in the house, so she’s not able to run. She blunders about in the walls for a while and actually finds the angel body of the cursed beast leader which is sort of creepy. Eventually she gets caught and falls in love with the beast leader (obviously). She’s able to break the curse on him and turn him back into the angel being person he was originally. This description is sort of all over the place, but I hope someone recognizes it.
