The title of the book, “Sent to Watch,” is perfect for a book about aliens who are sent to another planet to investigate what is going on but are not allowed to affect their natural way of life in any way. The novel falls squarely into the realm of pure science fiction.

The story mostly takes place on Earth 48. It covers all the aspects you might expect from a novel about aliens and more. From the utilization of alien technology to interplanetary wars, then court cases, fights for parliamentary seats, heartbreak, rejection, and finally the rebelliousness of a school kid. The book is packed with it all. I was hooked from the first page and loved every moment. The aliens, in most cases, have two names: their actual name and another for infiltration. There are more than 88 Earths, and some of them have continents, capitals, a language they speak (mostly Grellish), and specific names for their inhabitants. While this can be a lot of information, there is a glossary at the beginning of the book that you can easily reference. I found the glossary to be exceptionally useful, and after some time, you become acquainted with the information, so you won't need to refer to the glossary as much.

Most chapters are less than 15 pages, which can be helpful if you plan to read it gradually over extended periods since you can decide how many chapters to read each day. The characters in the book were well-developed. Their personalities were made clear, and you could guess what decisions they would make due to their personalities.

One of the drawbacks of the book is the amount of information you need to learn because it is very fictional; you have to know their names, countries, continents, languages, etc., to truly grasp what is going on. It takes some getting used to. This book might not be for everyone, especially those who prefer a touch of reality in their fictional stories. It will be suitable for people who enjoy highly fictional stories, particularly those involving aliens and so on. It was well-edited with very few errors.

I'm awarding it a perfect score of five out of five. Even though it caters to fans of fantastical narratives, it excels remarkably within that niche. I was captivated from the very start to the finish, experiencing scarcely any dull moments throughout the entire journey. Although it contained a lot of information that you may have to familiarize yourself with, I found the process fun, and it made the story even more interesting to me. If I were to give one word to describe my overall experience, it would be “magnetic".
