The novella "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Mathew Tysz is a captivating fictional tale narrated in three parts: Prologue, I am Galen, from the Lands of the Princes, and I Am Wilhelm, King of Voulhire.

In the Prologue, the story unfolds at the castle of Hillport, revealing a riveting sequence of events involving an unexpected intrusion by the magistrate Meldorath. The use of magic, betrayal, and political upheaval sets the stage for a gripping narrative that leads to a swift change in leadership.

"I am Galen, from the Lands of the Princes" takes us to Voulhire and its surrounding islands, offering a perspective from someone living under the rule of princes. The tale explores the emperor's strategy to prevent his sons from uniting against him, resulting in a power struggle among the princes. Civil wars ensue, impacting the lives of those in the Princes Lands, illustrating the consequences of unchecked ambition and power.

The final part, "I Am Wilhelm, King of Voulhire," shifts the focus to Soulhire, the city of Voulhire, where King Wilhelm's leadership is celebrated during the Feast of Human Hands. The story highlights the positive impact of a leader who prioritizes the well-being of the kingdom, stabilizing the economy and earning the admiration of the people.

The novella skillfully weaves together these three narratives, offering insights into the abuse and responsible use of power in society. Meldorath's tyrannical rule serves as a cautionary tale, contrasting with King Wilhelm's benevolent leadership. The vivid imagery throughout the book enhances the reader's experience, making it a compelling exploration of leadership dynamics and their impact on individuals and society.

I have not encountered any typos while reading the book therefore I give credit to the editor. There are a few cases of profanity for example when Maido comments about tits of a woman dancing in the hall and also when Mianora is being referred to as a pain in the ass. This does not stop me from rating this book 4 out of 4. I really enjoyed reading it.
