Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the entry novel into the brand-new fantasy world with action, wonder, philosophy, science, and a touch of magic created by Matthew Tysz. This book is the introduction to the series “We are Voulhire,” setting the base of the world, the characters, and the stories.
It begins with a world view of a land of different countries fighting to conquer each other, where there is a thriving nation called Voulhire. It might be the most respected and successful country, but if you take a deeper look, you will find struggle—struggle for power. Some who seek power are not so compassionate, and this world is not going to be enough for them to conquer.
Galen Bray is a refugee from one of the war-torn lands, immigrating to Voulhire thanks to his uncle, who bequeathed his business to him after his passing. Galen was raised in a place ridden with war, where peace and happiness were rare. Now he will get to see life with a new vision as he learns about this new country full of knowledge. But as he familiarizes himself with the new normal, he finds new wonders and new secrets about the world.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. For a fantasy novel, it completely checks all the boxes, even if it was supposed to be an introductory part of the series. There was a solid base, which was set up very nicely. I did not have problems following any part of the story. It was very well structured and delivered. I absolutely loved that all the chapters were based on that particular character’s point of view. It had so much variety. Every new chapter gave a whole new location and characters. The characters were also very well written. You get engaged very quickly. I also found the characters to have different layers to them, which was just amazing and shows that we can expect great quality from the upcoming series. A good amount of action was a good surprise as well.
I will give this book 5 out of 5 stars. There was nothing that I did not like in this book. This world has a vast plot, and I would be excited to read this series. I will recommend this book to all fantasy and action readers who love an immersive plot.
