Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire stands out as a captivating novel skillfully crafted by Matthew Tysz. The narrative unfolds in a utopian realm where aspirations materialize through hard work and passion, rewarded with peace and prosperity. Yet the question lingers: can any world truly achieve a utopian reality? The story kicks off with a gripping scene depicting a powerful mage overthrowing a cruel lord and assuming control of a small, affluent town, establishing the magical land’s tone where magic and generational politics coexist to accomplish the unimaginable. Lord Meldorath, a mage whose power surpasses anything this world has ever witnessed, ruthlessly slaughtered hundreds of soldiers defending their malevolent lord—a figure revealed to be nothing more than a parasitic leech draining life from the town. However, the king of this nation is adamant about preventing bloodshed on his soil, vowing that such actions will not go unpunished.
Initially skeptical I found the first few pages brimming with excitement and adrenaline, heightening my interest. The author adeptly introduces each character with a background tale, fostering a connection to the plot while offering surprises in character development. The flawless editing enhances the reading experience, maintaining a seamless pace without disruptions. A thoughtful addition from the author is the mini-dictionary, which aids readers in navigating the magical world filled with coined words that effectively convey their intended meaning.
If there’s room for improvement, it lies in the book’s conclusion. While satisfying, it leaves a sense that more could have been added to further enrich the plot, leaving readers yearning for additional depth.
My rating for this book is a resounding 5 out of 5 stars, credited to its impeccable editing and seamless reading experience. It provides well-crafted characters, and the enthralling adventure makes me eager to delve into the next installment of the series.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to fiction enthusiasts, especially those who relish tales akin to ‘Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Harry Potter.’ Trust me, this book will send shivers down your spine and compel you to finish it in a single sitting.
