Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Post by anna reads »

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black is an excellent book! It is clean for anyone who is like myself and prefer books to be clean. The story really draws you in from the start and throughout the story.
All of the characters are extremely interesting, but some of my favorites are: The Bomb, Jude, Caradan, and Vivi.
I always saw fairies as how they were in Disney movies and other children’s movies, but I love the dark twist that the author has on fairies in the book. Holly Black gave a whole new twist on writing some well loved species of characters, and I am all in for it!
Jude Duarte is a 17 year old girl who was brought into Elfhame by her parent’s murderers at the age of 7. She is trying to find her way in a land where mortals are not accepted, and in particular the royal court where her adoptive father, Madoc, is the grand general. Jude later becomes a spy for the Crown Prince Dain who wants to know who is plotting against him. And throughout the book there are many plot twists and turns that had me constantly on the edge of my seat when listening to the audiobook.
Jude Duarte is a relatable character in the Cruel Prince, she is young and she wants to find her place in the world. But she is not too overly confident but at the same time not afraid to throw in some witty comebacks and sass at her enemies.
Overall, I’d give this book a 3.5/4, I honestly really enjoyed it and the writing style of it, and I would absolutely read it again.
