Review of Sentinel Of The Light
Dave is in shock, suffering from the effects of his mysterious illness. He sinks into darkness and is then brought into light. He is given a choice: a pathway of light and hope, a pathway of darkness and power, or death. When Dave returns to real life, he finds he has developed some rather strange abilities.
With the help of some new friends, Dave seeks to unravel the mystery of his new powers. Dave’s powers are not just unusual in the normal world but are unusual within the magical world as well. It becomes learning on the run, however, as he must fight against new dangers at every turn.
Sentinel Of The Light by Dennis W. Rhoades is an exciting fantasy novel featuring magic, adventure, and demons. It is the first in an ongoing series.
The book is easy to read. Rhoades has built a well-structured system of rules to order his system of magic and seeks to relate it to real concepts from physics. The characters are distinct, and you start to see development in them as the book progresses. Being the first in a series, it sets up a lot of plot and further development to be covered in further books.
There were a few errors in the book that I noted while reading it. I also felt that Dave should have been more suspicious of the Professor and his house than he was. Otherwise, there was little to dislike about the book.
Overall, I rate Sentinel Of The Light 5 out of 5 stars. It is an enjoyable and well-written fantasy novel. There were no issues significant enough to warrant the deduction of a star.
I would recommend the book to anyone with an interest in fantasy novels. There is no significant profanity or sexual content, so it would suit younger readers as well as adults.

I find what you describe about this book very interesting. It's amazing what some people experience. Being out of the body and coming back must be something very strong.Rob Carr wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 00:34 [Following is a volunteer review of "Sentinel Of The Light" by Dennis W Rhoades.]

Robb, your review has made me super curious about what these strange new abilities might be! I like the idea that there is a magical world here as well, and that even in that world, the abilities are something special. I can only presume that Dave chose the light based on the book's title; it sounds like it could be an exciting series to look into. Thanks for your thoughts on this one. Until next time...Rob Carr wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 00:34 [Following is a volunteer review of "Sentinel Of The Light" by Dennis W Rhoades.]

Thank you, Cara! Appreciate your comments as always. The cover definitely gives away what choice he makes but his powers keep changing or being added to so that keeps you guessing.Cara Wilding wrote: ↑23 Jan 2024, 22:43Robb, your review has made me super curious about what these strange new abilities might be!
