We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz sets the stage for the enthralling "We Are Voulhire" series, with its inaugural installment focusing on the journey of Galen Bray, a young escapee from the tumultuous Lands of the Princes. Galen's odyssey leads him to the kingdom of Voulhire, where he seeks to inherit his late uncle's estate and embark on a peaceful life. However, the vibrant land proves to be anything but serene, unfolding a narrative woven with threads of mystery, magic, and wonder.

At its core, the story revolves around Galen's attempt to transform a realm plagued by corrupt politicians into a spectacle worthy of admiration. King Wilhelm, recognizing the need for change, appoints Eldus Alderman, a former judge with a strong sense of justice, as the new lord of Hillport. Eldus, a pivotal character, becomes immersed in the challenge of unraveling the enigma surrounding Orlin and Meldorath—magicians who engage in illegal magical experiments on the unsuspecting people of Voulhire.

The strength of the narrative lies not only in the intricate plot but also in the well-crafted development of characters. Lord Eldus, depicted as a law-abiding individual, adds depth to the unfolding tale. We Are Voulhire beckons readers into a rich and multidimensional world, inviting exploration of the interplay between science, spirituality, and imagination. The author's ingenuity shines through the inventive names bestowed upon the various worlds, cities, councils, and communities, enhancing the immersive experience.

The narrative introduces a diverse cast of powerful characters, each vying for prominence and contributing to the intricacies of the plot. The characters' interactions and relationships weave a tapestry of complexity, keeping readers engaged throughout the journey.

Despite the book's strengths, it is not without flaws. An observation of numerous errors suggests a lack of professional editing. I didn't find anything to dislike about the book. However, despite this shortcoming, We Are Voulhire deserves commendation and a solid 5 out of 5 stars. For enthusiasts of historical and mystical narratives, this book stands as a captivating recommendation, promising an immersive and thought-provoking reading experience.
