"Nowhere to Hide" by Jude Austin stands as the third installment in the Five Worlds series, previously titled the Projects series. Continuing the journey with Kalin Taylor, who identifies as Kata, the narrative unfolds with Vasari Adrianne Demont instructing a group of holin to embark on a mission to Atthiras to locate and return someone alive (the identity kept undisclosed). Alan Morgan, Kata's sole confidant, receives orders from High Command to gather Kata for a critical mission: tracking down four missing female students on the Suliko space station. The urgency stems from the High Command's belief that Adrianne might be pursuing Kata. Who is the target of the holin, and what happened to the four students?

Jude Austin defines her favored genre as sci-fi realism, characterized by character-driven, non-dystopian science fiction devoid of advanced science, aliens, AI/robots, or epic space battles. After reading all three books in the series, I find myself in agreement with her description. Austin excels in constructing imaginative worlds with distinctive creatures, such as the sapient bird species called strirla, known for ferrying humans for a fee.

Moreover, Austin skillfully breathes life into the characters. Kata endured emotional abuse and torture from GenTech during his upbringing. The empathy evoked for Kata and the daily struggles he faced showcase the depth of character development. The richness of character isn't confined to the main cast; each character possesses a distinct personality.

The element of surprise adds to the book's allure. Anticipating events, especially with Adrianne Demont dispatching assassins, I found myself misled, contributing to the book's engagement factor. The narrative confronts issues and scenes with graphic violence, albeit without explicit sexual content.

"Nowhere to Hide" captivates from the beginning to its conclusion, leaving no room for improvement. The story is impeccably edited with no typographical errors, earning it a well-deserved rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it to those seeking a compelling character-driven narrative. Sci-fi enthusiasts and those unfamiliar with the genre will find this story accessible, devoid of intricate technology or complex scientific jargon. Individuals sensitive to violence or profanity may want to approach with caution. Personally, I eagerly anticipate the release of book number four.
