In Matthew Tysz's debut novel, "We Are Voulhire: In “A New Arrival Under Great Skies” we’re taken to a mystical land of wizardry relationships, political intrigue, and enchantment that spoil the amusement of youth.

Galen Bray, a young refugee put in this new environment, remains relatable and well-developed. His personal journey of self-discovery and adaptation is interesting, and anyone is going to cheer for him as he goes through all the ups and downs and mysteries of Voulhire. It is a story that develops very slowly, gluing together political plotting, personal journeys, and dark secrets. Voulhires past and the threats that lie ahead keep the reader guessing what will happen next.

The juxtaposition of the busy, modern cities and the more traditional countryside is particularly intriguing, and the author does a fantastic job of enlivening Voulhire through vivid descriptions and engaging narration. Even the secondary characters are well-developed, each with their own motives and stories. Tysz’s excitement is mixed with moments of humor and introspection, and the book turns out to be well-rounded.

Galen’s story is one of adversity and figuring out that he belongs in the world. The writing style of "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies” is commonly referred to as entertaining and lucid. Tysz makes the story simple to follow using plain language. Although unpretentious, descriptions of scenery, characters, and action sequences can also be powerful visually in the writing. It’s enough to imagine a picture without being weighed down. Everything about the book was to my liking, especially the fact that, despite the darker aspects of Voulhire’s world, the book ends in hope and triumphs against the odds in the end. The editing was awesome, and hence this book was worth a solid 5 out of 5 star rating. We Are Voulhire is a book that I would highly recommend.
