Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
As I began to read beyond the title: We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies; I was not sure where the story was going....
Still interested as well as curious to see where the story was headed, I continued to read gaining traction as my eyes guided smoothly across every sentence, grasping onto the authors' use of clear, concise and colorful details to the events and characters of the story.
Hanging onto the authors' every word and finding the main characters voice narrating within it. I began to get a clear view of the plot. The abrupt pause between paragraphs (episodes) sort of took my attention away from the main events at the time. Wondering the characters' irrelevance to the other characters mentioned as well as the main character...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was written for the Medieval era surrounding Kings, Lords, Magistrates doing their part to rule their nation and princes as heir to the Kings throne. Guards, Soldiers, and Archers posted throughout the castle awaiting the captains' commands as they protect.
The Commander played an important role from commanding soldiers to step forward under the king's demands. Depending on the accusation one didn't have a say in their punishment. It could be quick and quiet or a large spectacle among the townspeople as a lesson or a long, drawn-out court proceeding resulting in jail time or execution.
Emperors ruled their part of the nation with hungry heirs to the emperors' throne. This became a fight if there were more than one son to take the throne. The emperor worries of being overthrown was evident. Wars were fought to gain territories and natural resources. Among the towns people or rather the members of the higher hierarchy, those in command paid handsomely or earned their seat closest to the king/ lord as they dined on the best of food brought to them by servants; in one of those closest seats sat the king's crier as rode his coat tails relaying gossip and hearsay as to warn his king.
Many people traveled by ship from island to island to pursue a journey home or to make a fresh start. Status decided where you reside on the ship as you made your journey. Of course, if you're hiding your safe bet is to stowaway safe passage to the ships bottom deck with the servants having very little food or water.
The titles and heading boldly proceed the paragraphs to follow with enough hints guiding the reader from the beginning to the main characters entrance into the story.
I was, I am invested and asking for more to the story...transitions between the separated paragraphs, but the authors' portrayal of the story held my attention and left me intrigued and interested in reading more into "all" of the colorful, adventurous and experienced characters mentioned own journey and destination. Not to mention the entertainment one can experience on a long ship ride to wherever.
