I found myself immersed in a mesmerizing realm of fantasy, where a tapestry of interconnected stories unfolded, weaving a rich narrative filled with intrigue and magical elements. The book skillfully delves into the lives of various characters, each facing their challenges and mysteries in the mystical world of Voulhire.

The journey begins with a gripping event at Castle Hillport, where Meldorath, adorned in a distinctive blue robe, accuses Lord Orlin of heinous acts against children. The subsequent power struggle and the arrest of Meldorath by the king set the stage for a tale brimming with political tensions and enigmatic twists.

One of the strengths of the narrative lies in its multi-layered approach, seamlessly blending different storylines and characters. From my perspective, Galen's journey of escape from war to the challenges faced by Lord Eldus Alderman in Hillport takes readers on a captivating journey through the diverse landscapes of Voulhire. The introduction of magical elements, such as biomage Alabaster de Lasette and the dancing army Riva Rohavi, adds depth and excitement to the fantastical setting.

The authors skillfully explore themes of power, past traumas, and the mysterious return of Meldorath, creating a complex and intriguing tapestry that kept me engaged. The narrative also touches on the delicate balance of leadership, leaving me with a sense of foreboding as Eldus experiences unsettling sensations, and the king contemplates the challenges ahead.

The book excels in creating a vivid and interconnected fantasy world, with each arc contributing to the overall complexity and depth of the narrative. The exploration of political intrigue, magical conflicts, and the impact of characters like Marshus Alderman and Captain Barcaedi adds layers to the storytelling.
Overall, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a captivating fantasy novel that successfully combines elements of politics, magic, and personal struggles. From my perspective, the well-woven narrative and intricate world-building earn this book a solid 4 out of 4 stars. There was not a single flaw that I could find in this book, so any lesser rating wouldn’t be justifiable. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy immersive fantasy worlds with diverse plots and intriguing characters.

Great review. I read this book too and enjoyed the aspects of Galen Bray’s adventures. I didn’t care for all the politics though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for your detailed review. I hadn't realised this resolved so much around political conflict within this fantasy world. I do enjoy truly immersive stories, so this one may appeal.
