"Sakola" by Isabelle Bryan is a captivating literary journey that revolves around the life of Angelique Sakola, the daughter of Richard Sakola, a chief of the Mutambus tribe. Angelique, a modern and independent woman, finds herself entangled in love with Laurent during her time at Cranfield University. The narrative unfolds with Angelique bidding farewell to Laurent as she embarks on a poignant journey to attend her father's funeral.

As the story progresses, Angelique grapples with recurring dreams where her father, Richard, seemingly hands her over to the enigmatic King of the bottomless pit, Abaddon. Unaware of the profound impact these dreams will have on her life, Angelique dismisses them as mere figments of her imagination, unknowingly setting the stage for a series of life-altering events.

Richard Sakola's complex family dynamics come to light, revealing a marriage of convenience with Oluchi, his lover, who initially struggles with infertility. To secure an heir, Richard marries Marie, and fathers two children, Sam and Sandra. However, Oluchi eventually becomes the mother of Angelique and her twin sisters, Lena and Linda. Richard's strong preference for Oluchi over Marie becomes a source of tension within the family upon his death, especially as Angelique is named as his heir, bypassing the eldest son, Sam. Furthermore, Richard imparts certain revelations to his wife, creating a sense of foreboding that Angelique must confront after his demise.

The narrative weaves an intricate tapestry of suspense, keeping readers engaged from the opening pages to the gripping conclusion. The author skillfully introduces various twists and turns, creating a storyline that is both compelling and unpredictable. Angelique's character emerges as a bold and inspiring woman capable of achieving great things, capturing the reader's admiration.

However, as the narrative progresses, the spotlight shifts to Rachel, a character who eclipses Angelique in terms of resilience and tenacity. Rachel's journey as a widow facing life's challenges head-on resonates deeply, adding depth to the novel's exploration of human strength in the face of adversity.

Isabelle Bryan's meticulous character development is praiseworthy, with each figure in the story etched to perfection. The stark contrast between the 'underworld beings' and the 'fishers' is a testament to the author's ability to delineate the boundary between evil and good.

While the narrative explores mature themes, the presence of adult content makes the book suitable for adult readers. Personally, the book left me thoroughly engrossed, and I found nothing to dislike. Thus, I wholeheartedly rate "Sakola" 5 out of 5 stars for its excellent storytelling, well-crafted characters, and the anticipation it builds for the fate of Angelique and Rachel in the next edition. I eagerly look forward to continuing the journey in the upcoming installment.
