"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is the first book in the Voulhire series by Matthew Tysz. This fantasy novel introduces readers to the intricate world of Voulhire, a land filled with political intrigue, magic, and complex characters, that we follow one by one, chapter by chapter.

This book is like an introduction to the universe and to (most?) of the characters that we will encounter during the exploration of the Voulhire kingdom: from a King to a "simple" wayfarer, the range of characters that have their own chapter(s) is quite large!

Tysz's world-building is rich and immersive, drawing readers into a vividly imagined realm filled with unique cultures, landscapes, and magical elements. The political dynamics within Voulhire are intricately woven, adding depth and complexity to the narrative as characters compete for power and influence.

The chapters are shorts, but they have a steady rhythm, balancing moments of action and intrigue with quieter, introspective scenes. This keeps the reader engaged and invested in the story from beginning to the end. It's also practical if we don't have the time to read too many pages, we can still read one or two chapters without it taking too much of our time!

I didn't read fantasy like that for a long time, it reminded me of Fiona McIntosh's or David Gemmell's novels, with the same feeling of always wanting to read "one more chapter".
The only downside of this book is that some chapters were somewhat slower, the pacing was not as dynamic as the others. Well, not every chapter can be the same, but even if those stood out for me, it didn't hinder my overall reading experience!

This book is like other epic/dark fantasy book: a complex read with rather graphic violence, references to rape (among other crude things) are made but it's not described. "Colourful" vocabulary is used like per usual with this type of book, with characters talking in a street/crass manner. I would say this book is good to read for people of at least 15-16 years old, as it resembles books I've read when I was this age, without it being shocking to me.
