Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz embarks on an epic fantasy journey within the kingdom of Voulhire during a purported golden age. Following the immigrant Galen Bray from the war-torn Lands of the Princes, the narrative unfolds as tensions rise and powerful forces shape the destiny of Voulhire. With a multifaceted narrative structure, vivid world-building, and a gradual revelation of the plot, the book offers a compelling reading experience for fantasy enthusiasts. This is the first book of a nine book series, according to the author, Matthew Tysz.
I was captivated with the storyline right from the beginning of the book. Action, suspense, and drama as you start reading this book right until the end, leaving you curious as to what happens next. The book is written in such a way that you want to learn more about the people, and where they live in Voulhire. As the storyline unfolds, you learn more about the politics of each region, the various kinds of magic used, and about the difference between the Cosmos (the physical universe) and Caromentis (the magic world which the people called "The Flesh of the Mind"). The author has created a realistic world, with a lot of detail, within a sci-fi type of genre.
Each new chapter concentrates on a specific character and their adventures. This first book of the series is written as an introduction as to what is still coming up in the series. We meet Lord Orlin and Meldorath in the prologue, and Galen is introduced in the first chapter, right after the prologue. Galen leaves the Lands of the Princes in quite an exciting fight where the captain of the ship defends Galen's rite of passage to leave his country. Galen had convinced the captain to let him board the ship with papers he had received concerning his inheritance in Magnum Caelum, Voulhire. Next we meet King Wilhelm Arcolo, the king of Voulhire. And, so, in each new chapter you get to meet another interesting character or two. The author's skilful use of vivid descriptions brings the world of Voulhire to life. Whether depicting the physical universe (Cosmos) or the magical realm (Caromentis), the detailed descriptions enhance reader immersion, making the setting and characters more palpable.
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is recommended for fantasy enthusiasts, particularly those who appreciate intricate narratives and detailed world-building. The multifaceted storytelling, vivid descriptions, and engaging character perspectives make it a compelling read for older teenagers and adults.
However, individuals sensitive to profanity and mild sexual content may find it less suitable. Overall, the book caters to a diverse audience interested in exploring a richly crafted fantasy realm.
The smooth flow of the story is a commendable aspect of the book. Free from grammatical or typographical errors, the narrative progresses seamlessly, contributing to an engaging reading experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed the adventure so far. It is difficult to put this book down, as one is excited to see what is going to happen next in the book. This book definitely deserves a 4 out of 4 star rating.
