Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Magic is not merely what exists in Caromentis or Cosmos, the two distinct realms in Matthew Tysz’s book, “We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies”; it is the ecstasy and enchantment you experience delving into its pages. A rich tapestry of mystery, magic, and intricate political dynamics, interwoven with the lives of kings, magicians, and people from distant lands, the kingdom of Voulhire encompasses a rich yet mystifying history, coupled with varied geographical, economic, and political terrains.
The two protagonists King Eldus and Galen Bray, in their fresh starts in new lands, keep us curious and hopeful about what more will happen in their lives under the shadows of those long gone. From Meldorath, a once esteemed general whose death remains a mystery and whose fear looms over Voulhire to date, to the rebellious Riva Rohavi organization seeking to upturn the monarchy for vague reasons, all the characters add layers of intrigue and unpredictability.
This book is not a straightforward tale of good versus evil; instead, it navigates through shades of gray, leaving readers in a constant state of questioning and curiosity. The mystery surrounding a former powerful king adds layers of anticipation, and the simultaneous unfolding of past facts and the arrival of a young protagonist keep the narrative dynamic.
The skillful parallel development of characters, rather than the conventional linear character progression, creates a journey that keeps readers not merely observant but also alive and immersed in the book. An impeccably written masterpiece, its narrative builds up to climactic moments, only to add layers of frustration and desperation, intensifying the anticipation for the next installment.
A book for fantasy and book lovers in general who have long endured suboptimal imagery in books, “We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies” is a welcome change and leaves readers yearning for more. Regret is a distant thought when picking up this book, unless, of course, you're reading it just before a crucial exam because you won’t be able to stop once you start. This is a must-read book for its exquisite plot and subplots, complex web of characters, and vivid descriptive imagery, truly deserving of 5 out of 5 stars.
