“We are Voulhire - A New Arrival under Great Skies” by Matthew Tysz is book one of a grand-scale saga series unfolding around the kingdom of Voulhire. Voulhire is a kingdom in the Cosmo, the universe of Physics and a world of men. Voulhire is comprised of cities with distinctive characters. Soulhire - the capital where the king Wilhelm resides.Yamon Soul - the holy city; Magnum Caelum - a town with rocks, and Hillport - the quaint impoverished fishing town with a pained past,and other cities, different countries, and even different realms and universes are introduced.
The story begins with such velocity and brutality that at first I wasn’t sure I would be able to continue reading it, let alone would like it. However, the tone changes from chapter to chapter with different characters so soon, I was sucked into the world of Voulhire.
I particularly liked that there was a title for each chapter. That prepared me for who or what part of the story I was going to read, so I didn’t have to take a moment to figure out who or where I was reading about, which I sometimes do when I read a book with many characters and locations.
Another thing I liked about this book was that the author provided us with a map of Voulhire and a glossary of terms. These made it more fun to read as well as helpful. There was also an external link to his website where extended reading was made available for those who wanted to know more in detail such as the history of Voulhire, the multiverse, and other countries and lands.
If you like the works such as “The Lord of the Rings”, “Game of Thrones”, and even the “Harry Potter” series, you will love “We Are Voulhire”. I give 5 out of 5. It is rare that a book is so well thought out and constructed as well as beautifully written. I felt like I was on a journey to another world.
