Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
In the book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, we are taken to the fantasy kingdom of Voulhire whose waters border the Lands of the Princes, a land named so due to their Emperor of Lullabies who tricked his sons that would eventually want to overthrow him by placing them in charge of four different islands, each with its own benefit. The princes once tasting the great power in their own islands desired to control all of the islands all together hence beginning a war among the princes and not disturbing the Emperor's reign for a long time. These wars led to people trying to flee to the kingdom of Voulhire a task made already hard by the princes but those successful brought havoc to the open kingdom and it's citizens, forcing the king of Voulhire to close the borders and only open them for special cases.With this we're brought along the journey of Galen Bray who was luckily granted citizenship in the Voulhire kingdom, specifically Magnum Caelum following his uncle's death, a prominent blacksmith in the area.He takes us in exciting journeys from the Land of the Princes by boat to the kingdom of Voulhire to the various parts of the wonderful kingdom which highly contradicts where he came from.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a wonderful fantasy book where the author weaves in stories of different characters in the kingdom of Voulhire together with a one flow and not confusing the readers. This enables us the readers to see the same situations but in different perspectives through different people. The author also describes well the scenes such that one feel as though they are presently there as they take place.One of the characters that highly captured my attention was the story of Galen Bray as he trains to be a blacksmith and continue his uncle's business who recently passed away taking with him his grandmother's advice - " See the good in everything and the best of it will find you" from the Land of Princes to this wonderful kingdom.
Other stories of other characters that took my interest were like those of the mystery of Lord Meldorath and his magic, the two parallel worlds - Cosmos and Caromentis (the world of magic), the Lord Eldusand even a small character like the old man who was a biomage and was patiently waiting for his time to reach in the cells. Also the author shows the history and beginning of the rivals of Voulhire, the Riva Rohavi and their silent growth throughout the years getting ready to take their revenge on their enemies.
I also liked how the author leaves us in suspense in various ways through various characters making me eager to continue with the next book in the series of nine novels, finally knowing what happened next.
The book was nicely edited ensuring no errors throughout the book and also the author also took the effort of explaining the new terms at the end of the book. I enjoyed each and every chapter hence I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I highly recommend this book to adult readers who like fantasy and adventure. I would also like to caution that this book has mild sexual scenes that are not given it by the cover or title of the book hence not suitable for younger readers. Some people may be thrown of by unknown words on the title such as Voulhire but I would highly recommend they give it a chance for it's definitely worth it.
