“We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies” is the first book in the fantasy series written by Matthew Tysz, where we get introduced to a brand-new world set in medieval times through the perspectives of different characters. We get to meet Galen, a refugee seeking a new life in the lands of Voulhire; Wilhelm, King of the Voulhire, who does his best to foster peace among his people; and Eldus, who has been appointed as the new Lord of the Hillport to bring out the unexplored potential of that location. Will Galen be able to find his peace after leaving the Lands of Princes and adjust to his new place? What's so important about Voulhire that the King is adamant about letting worry rise among his people? Will Eldus be able to help the people of Hillport after they have endured so many years of hardship? The only way to get to know the answers is if you dive deep into the story of "We Are Voulhire.".

Despite being the first volume in the series, the introduction was understandable and not confusing to follow. The description of the land, its occupants, and all necessary observations were easy to comprehend, and it let me dive into the unknown world surprisingly smoothly. What confused me was the switch between the third and first perspectives in one part of the book, but that didn’t hinder the reading experience.
I want to highlight the pace of events in this book. English is not my first language, so it surprised me how easy it was to grasp the ongoing situation when switching perspectives. Compared to other fantasy books, this one had a slow build-up and kept you anticipating what would happen next.

While learning about the characters, it was interesting to see how each viewed the world around them. I liked how most of the attention in the book was on properly introducing the characters, and events only further helped to understand their personalities. You can see how the author loves his world and doesn’t shy away from showing all the beautiful and ugly parts of his creations.

The only con I could consider is the progressive introduction of new characters. As much as I liked how we could observe the events through different characters, identifying each of them got confusing. It would be nice to have a list at the end of the book where we see the names of each of them and their standing in the current events; it would help when continuing the reading after a break but not remembering certain people.

While reading, I didn't encounter any obvious typos or mistakes, which provided a pleasant reading experience.
The plot itself was captivating. The book was well-written and wonderfully edited; it provided a great reading experience and caught my attention until the end. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in fantasy and stories with great world-building. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
