“Exploring new things is fun. Exploring new things is dangerous. If you go exploring, be cautious of what might happen.” -Boys Adventure Through The Wild West
There’s not many people who would be brave enough to explore a haunted town. At the mere sight of a ghost, most people would run away and not be seen again. Five brothers, Clarence, Farrel, Ezra, Bob and Mikel, take it upon themselves to go on an adventure exploring as many haunted towns in the wild west that they can find. During their travels, they come across haunted motels, gold mines, trap doors and bugs who can kill anyone who looks at them for too long.

All five brothers have their own distinct personalities. Farrel is the oldest brother and is easy-going. Ezra is the shortest, but he’s also the leader of the group. Clarence is the bravest brother. Mikel is the anxious brother and Bob is the protector of the group. The brothers all possess a sense of adventure and they enjoy exploring the unknown. Along the way, they solve mysteries such as, helping a ghost find her murderer and bringing comfort to a deceased child who was bound to the world because she missed her father.

Irene Jane Holmes’ Boys Adventure Through The Wild West is written in an episodic way. In every chapter, the brothers are exploring a new town and discovering forgotten secrets. Even though it was written in a series of episodes, the plot was difficult to follow. In every chapter, scenes were rushed and not elaborated on. The parts of the plot that I did comprehend wasn’t exciting nor held my interest. There weren’t hardly any action scenes and the language of book wasn’t descriptive enough. At one point, all the places they visited started to blend together and I had to go back to find out where they were. I also couldn’t discern what the whole point of their travels were. It felt like they had no true purpose or agenda and the story fell flat to me.

The author gave one line of description for each of the brothers. In the book, none of the descriptions matched up to their characters. In fact, the characters weren’t fleshed out at all. I easily forgot their names and started confusing one brother for another. I felt absolutely no connection to them and wasn’t invested in their adventures. The author failed to make me care about the characters and the plot.

The one aspect that really made this book hard to get through were the numerous grammatical errors. The book was poorly edited and poorly written. There were errors such as: “sandiness” instead of “sadness,” “where” instead of “we’re” and many more. Whenever the characters did an action while speaking, the author placed the action in parentheses. Let me give you an example; “Clarence says, (Laughs out Loud) Oh yeah, it is funny Mikel.” There were other insistences of this as well.

I rate this book 1 out of 4 stars. There were too many grammatical errors and misspelling of words. The plot and the characters were both monotonous. Unfortunately, with the book in its current state, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The book needs to be properly edited and the plot and characters should be rewritten to be more appealing. If this book goes through some necessary changes, I would recommend to any reader who has a sense of adventure.

Sounds like an interesting premise, but I can see where the errors and monotony would warrant your rating. Thanks for the review!

The development of characters is a very important part of any book, since the reader sees the world of the book through the characters. I think the author picked on a good popular theme, and he may need to revise to breathe live into his characters.

I agree if she made the characters and plot more interesting and fixed the grammatical errors, it has the potential to be a good book.

Thanks for reading! :D

It's too bad the characters weren't distinct. It sounds like am interesting idea. Maybe the author can revise this and turn it into a better book. Thanks!
