The Elf Archive by Jordan David is book two in the Magi Charter series. In the first book The Elf Brief, we were introduced to Noel Night an elf at the North Pole. He had just been assigned the job of helping the new Santa Claus settle in. This second novel takes place about five years later.

Noel Night is now the head of the new historical department at the North Pole. Actually, he’s the only elf in the historical department and is still trying to get things straightened up. Unfortunately he hasn’t found much information as there is still something odd going on at the North Pole. Elves are no longer kicked out of the North Pole if they regain memories of their time as humans, but human memories are still frowned upon. There is a library that existed somewhere on the complex at one time with information about the human lives of elves, and Noel is determined to find it. Meanwhile, Santa Nicolas has decided he wants to find a Mrs. Claus which Noel must be involved in chronicling. Will Santa find a Mrs. Claus? Will Noel ever find information about the history of the North Pole?

I had the pleasure of reviewing the first book in this series. In the first book, we just start learning the mysteries of the North Pole. Now that we know some of the characters, the mystery continues to build. This book almost doesn’t fit in a genre. There is an element of science fiction because we are, after all, discussing Santa and his Elves. However, there is a good amount of mystery in this book as well. Mr. David does a good job of making this appeal to a wide audience.

The pace of the book is steady. At no point did I find the book dull or boring. The elements of mystery in the plot are interspersed with light moments. The author uses something called the Reindeer Games to add some levity to the story. The Elves celebrate the middle of the year by having some fun. There are booths set up so that they can win prizes. There are also sleigh races and a ski jumping competition. Also, the dates that Santa goes on are quite fun in and of themselves.

The characters are one of the best things about this book. Noel is an inquisitive elf who is constantly getting himself into trouble with his questions. Santa Nicolas is an Aussie and not who you would normally picture as Santa. Of course, it’s so much more fun because all the elves have Christmas names like White Christmas, Mistletoe Green, and New Snow.

Since this is book two, I would really recommend starting with The Elf Brief before embarking on this adventure. That is not to say, however, that this novel couldn’t stand alone. You could read this one without having read the first, but the experience is much enhanced by starting at the beginning. I also feel compelled to point out that there is a cliff hanger ending in this book. The good thing is, the next book in the series is already out. The ending made me very anxious to read the next book.

Overall, I rate The Elf Archive 4 out of 4 stars. There were a few minor mistakes here and there, but they did not distract from the book. I immensely enjoyed learning more about the mysteries at the North Pole. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good book, wants to learn more about Santa, or who enjoys mysteries. I can’t wait to read the next one!

This does sound like a fun book! It's rare to find a book about the North Pole and Santa Claus that isn't written for children. This book sounds like one that many adults will enjoy reading.

Great Review! ?

It would be a great book to read aloud to your children or even to read as an adult. I enjoyed it immensely and I'm 36. Thanks Alyssa!

Well, Kandscreeley, this was a very good review, it made me sit up and take notice. I just love a very good Santa Clause story, whether in a book or in a movie, does not make any difference. I am a Santa Clause believer and get sooo much joy out of the fact that the idea of him continues with children in our present society.
Thank you so much for this uplifting review, I would definitely want to read both books at some time in the future.

I know I commented before but I just realized that you have reviewed Book1 and 2 in this series. I hope you get to at least read the next 7 books in the series even if you don't get to review them.
