What happens when an elf decides he is more capable of running the North Pole than Santa? In Jordan David's third book in the Magi Charter series, we get to find out. Read The Elf Coup and follow Noel Night on another epic journey in the land of polar bears and elves.

Noel Night is an elf working at the North Pole. He has many different duties but is mainly in charge of the library. Mistletoe Green is the former head of the Flight Con Department. He has always had his own plans for the North Pole. He thinks that it would run more smoothly if he was in charge. So, he sets plans in motion to render Santa Nicolas useless. This includes making a treaty with the polar bears to deal with those who would oppose him. Unfortunately, Santa Nicolas is away on his honeymoon and has been captured by the local authorities. On top of all of this, there is a strange affliction impacting the reindeer. This is causing them to lose their ability to fly which is obviously a great detriment to distributing toys. The North Pole and even Christmas itself is in jeopardy!

Jordan David has quite the imagination as evidenced by this series. This book is a combination of mystery, science fiction and Santa Claus. Add to that already stunning mixture a little bit of magic and you have a winning combination. This is by far the best yet in the series.

Let me give a little bit of background on the other books in the series. In the first book The Elf Brief we are introduced to the North Pole. We meet Santa Christo who is leaving because his term is up. Santa Nicolas is to replace him, and Noel Night is assigned to help him with the transition. In The Elf Archive, the second book, Santa Nicolas must find a bride to become Mrs. Claus. Meanwhile, Noel Night is off in search of a library that should exist somewhere on the grounds.

Since this is the third book in this series, I really would recommend starting with the first book and working forward. This is not a series that is easily read as stand alone books. I realize some might view this as a detriment. However, the series really is so good that you'll WANT to read them all.

Mr. David does a great job in this story in continuing to develop the characters. In the first book, we learned a lot about Santa himself. In the second book, we learned even more about Noel Night and his friends. In this third book, we learn more about an evil elf named Mistletoe Green as well as an unexpected hero (I will not name him as I want him to be a surprise for those that choose to read this book.)

I cannot say enough positive things about this book. I loved the element of mystery and the sense of good and evil. I loved the magic that Mr. David added to this story that was unexpected. Most of all, I really loved the new characters that we were able to get to know. Unfortunately, there were many mistakes that I noticed throughout the novel. These were mostly word substitutions (since instead of sense.) This did not detract at all from my enjoyment of the story (as you can probably tell), but it was definitely noticeable.

Overall, I rate The Elf Coup 3 out of 4 stars. If I could rate it on the story alone it would receive 5 out of 4 stars. However, I did have to lower the rating by 1 star for the sheer number of small errors. Nevertheless, I would absolutely recommend this book. If you haven't read any of this series yet, I have one question for you. What are you waiting for??

:D Initially when you said that its best to read from the beginning of the series on, I sighed. Your rhetorical question at the end of the review, however, left me feeling like I'm losing out on a great read! Thank you for your honest clear review, its really helpful!
