Roan by E. R. Barr is a book that tells the story of Conor Archer, a young boy. Conor grew up in Chicago with a secretive mom. After an incident, and when she dies, she leaves Conor with puzzling instructions and revelations that lead him to find an aunt in the odd town of Tinker’s Grove. Conor meets new people there. However, Tinker’s Grove hides a big secret that relates to extraordinary powers. Conor's arrival is met with several revelations and choices, and Conor learns that he is one of the dark ones, which he is not sure he wants to be. Conor faces the tough choice of acceptance or denial.

Mystery is something that I adore. I mean, I live for it. This is one of the reasons I was very happy when I started reading the book. There was a feeling I had when I read the description of the book, and I am very thankful that my intuition was not wrong. The transitions of events in the book are done so smoothly that you can grasp every little detail about the book. I also like how Conor goes on a big journey from not knowing much about himself to knowing about his destiny. This is exciting because Conor is just a regular guy, but then he's tossed into a world of legends and folklore that a regular person might think.

Another thing I like is the friendships and loyalty among the characters in the book. The only thing I disliked was how the main character, Conor, was built up at first. The intense pressure that was placed on him, especially at a very young age, was not supposed to be. The author should have written it in such a way that the pressure was slowly put on him in order for him to be able to acclimatize properly.

There are no errors in this book. It was professionally and exceptionally edited. I have only one dislike for this book, and I did not see it as something worthy of giving this book an imperfect rating, so I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend the book to those who like fantasy.
