5 out of 5 stars.
"Roan" by E. R. Barr is a captivating journey into the heart of mystery and self-discovery, earning a solid five-star rating for its enthralling narrative and compelling characters. Orphaned and alone, Conor Archer returns to his hometown, only to find himself thrust into the center of a supernatural conspiracy that threatens the very fabric of reality. Barr masterfully weaves together elements of myth and science, as Conor, aided by new friends Jace and Beth, unravels the enigma of the 'Dark Ones'—children protected by the town from ancient evils lurking in the shadows. With the help of Troubles, a mysterious Labrador Retriever, Conor embarks on a quest to uncover his true identity and confront the malevolent forces at play.

I awarded "Roan" by E. R. Barr a full 5 out of 5 stars due to its outstanding positive qualities that make it a truly exceptional read. Firstly, the book's intricate and engaging plot seamlessly weaves together elements of mystery, mythology, and science fiction, keeping readers gripped from start to finish. Barr's skillful storytelling draws readers into the world of Roan, immersing them in its atmospheric setting and captivating narrative. From the enigmatic Conor Archer to the resourceful Beth and charismatic Jace, Barr crafts a cast of characters that readers can't help but root for and become emotionally invested in.

Furthermore, "Roan" boasts evocative prose that vividly brings its world to life, from the eerie Indian Burial mound to the shadowy depths of the river. Barr's descriptive writing style adds to the sense of mystery and intrigue, ensuring that readers are fully immersed in the story.

While "Roan" by E. R. Barr is undoubtedly a captivating and engaging read, there are a few minor drawbacks that, while present, do not significantly detract from the overall quality of the book. While the book excels in building suspense and mystery, some readers may find themselves anticipating certain developments before they occur.

Additionally, the resolution of certain plot threads could be more fully explored, leaving some aspects of the story feeling slightly unresolved. Furthermore, while the book successfully blends elements of mystery, mythology, and science fiction, I may have preferred a more pronounced exploration of certain themes.

The editing of the book is another marvel of the editor as there aren’t any typos in it.

Overall, "Roan" is a masterfully crafted novel that excels in every aspect, from its compelling plot and well-developed characters to its atmospheric setting and evocative prose. It's a book that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for an immersive and captivating reading experience, making it deserving of a full 5 out of 5 stars.
