The plot of E.R. Barr's urban fantasy book Roan centers on a young man named Conor Archer, who returns to his birthplace after losing his mother. He returns to find a world gone dark and enigmatic. With the help of his friends Jace, Beth, his twin sister, and a dog named Troubles, Conor works to determine who he is and unravel the mystery of the "Dark Ones." Who is Conor? How does Conor relate to the "Dark Ones"? Read the book to find out more.

Knowing that this is the debut work from the author, I am truly impressed. The characters in this book require special appreciation. Conor Archer, the main character, captivates readers with his engaging personality and pulls them into his quest at every turn. And the dog—I have never loved a non-human character in a novel as much as I do this one. Celtic and Native American traditions permeate the novel's urban fantasy setting, which revolves around Conor Archer's journey of self-discovery in the enchanting hamlet of Tinker's Grove. Having no prior knowledge of Celtic culture, I thought it was fascinating. The author's reference to Celtic ornaments is thoughtful. Barr's careful attention to character and world-building creates a captivating and engaging reading experience. The narrative seamlessly combines contemplative passages with action-packed scenes to completely immerse readers in Conor's world. Barr delivers a captivating tale that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.

My favorite part of the book is where there is a song about how trees will talk. It is so beautifully described. "Roan" is a compelling read for fans of fantasy literature, with its well-crafted narrative and evocative descriptions. Overall, there is nothing I disliked about this book. Hence, I would give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I find this book error-free, thanks to the flawless editing.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading fantasy.
