C. Reinhold’s Blood in the Snow is the first book in the fantasy series The Origin Chronicles. This book had me hooked right from the start. The story follows Kelcer, a Worven hunter, and his journey through a snow-covered forest as he battles various threats and internal struggles, making him a compelling character to follow. The book also introduces fellow Worvens, Kelcer’s brother Vaegar, and their friend Jarek. The Worven are a race of sentient beings who possess a humanoid form with wolf-like characteristics. They resemble werewolves, according to their descriptions and the beautifully done book cover art.

The plot moves quickly with tense action scenes, including hunts and battles, that will keep you interested. The story is full of drama, from encounters with predators to dramatic confrontations with mysterious strangers and formidable enemies. It will keep you engaged. The author’s descriptions of the frozen landscape and various creatures in the book bring the setting to life. The exploration of Kelcer’s internal thoughts and the dialogue between the characters add to their authenticity.

One of the things I appreciated about this book was the character development. Even though it’s only four chapters long, the book introduces and develops the characters well. The author does a fantastic job of establishing a fun, competitive, and supportive atmosphere between the characters in the book. It immediately makes them likable and relatable characters.

Overall, Blood in the Snow was thoroughly enjoyable. The author has done an excellent job of creating an intriguing plot, a captivating setting, and engaging characters. Although there were a few grammatical errors, they did not negatively impact my reading experience. This book is worth a perfect score of 5 out of 5 stars, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy books with detailed world-building. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see where the story goes.

This seems like a terrific story that starts a fantasy series with great characters and an intriguing plot. I don't know why the author chose to write a series in short fiction instead of a novel, still I'll look into it. Thank you for your great review!
