Review of Mishaps of Marvelouz Witch
Mishaps of Marvelouz Witch Book Two: Marvelouz Grows a Garden by Karen Fronterhouse is a fictional tale of the misadventures of Marvelouz when she becomes a witch.
In a fantasy world, the Ricochet Forest was home to witches and warlocks. People outside the forest in the village were ordinary people. When Marvelouz turned thirteen and finally came out as a witch, she got her own cabin to practice magic safely. Each witch has her own magical creature paired with it. Marvelouz had a kitten named Pounce. Both of them were excited about their magical journey. Marvelouz loved spending time with her older sister, Sparkleful. She looked up to her sister for everything. When Marvelouz visits her sister's garden one day, she reacts just like any of us would in a similar situation. She wants her own garden. So she buys different varieties of seeds from the nearby village and tries to use magic to quickly grow her own garden. But everything does not go according to plan, and now she might be in danger. How will she solve this problem? Who will help her? Read this epic fantasy fiction tale to find out.
I liked the fantasy world the author has created. It draws parallels in some ways with the Harry Potter book series, although it is still a lot different. It's more of a series made for kids and can be finished quickly. I have to admire the creativity of the author in creating her own universe and series of books, especially with kids in mind, with some key lessons embedded in them. It contained lessons like there is no shortcut to success and we should not do something that we have no idea about just because someone else is doing it. The illustrations were quite creative and beautiful to look at, and they perfectly complemented the story. Except for a few small flaws, the book is edited very well.
What I did not like is that, in the end, the story left me somewhat unsatisfied. I felt like there should be more to the story. The initial setup of the characters and environment hyped me up too much, I guess.
I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because I felt somewhat unsatisfied with the overall story. Those who love fantasy fiction and tales of magic, especially kids, would really love this simple but effective tale.
