The novel We are Voulhire: A New arrival under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz is a book written in fantasy about the kingdom of Voulhire. The kingdom of Voulhire is owned by the Emperor of lullabies who had four sons. For fear that he might be killed by his sons and overthrown, he gifted them each to the southwest of Voulhire four islands accompanied with a small army and lots of weapons. These islands were known as the Lands of the Princes, where you either died by a sword or from starvation. The book focus is on power, war, survival, greed, conviction, death, and also magically themed.
Galen a twenty eight year old is the protagonist of this book. Once granted the opportunity, he flees away from the Lands of the Prices to Voulhire. He was granted citizenship to Voulhire as his great uncle whom he was the sole heir to owned a forge in Voulhire. Even in his dire situation, he sticks to his grandmother's advice of seeing the good in everything. He hopes to have better days and he is willing to walk towards it. However we can expect Galen's adventure to be not so smooth. We discover more of Voulhire as we journey with Galen in this book.
I like how the author gave a very detailed description in the book, it created a clear picture for the readers. It made one feel as though they were present in each scene themselves. Experiencing the same feeling with the characters. The plot was also well blended in each scene and was very captivating. The words used in the book were mostly simple and easy to understand. I had a very good thrill while I was reading this book. As the first in the nine book series, I look forward to more adventures in the other books.
What I disliked about this book is that some of the phrases used by the author were hard to comprehend. Although I understood the author's writing style, I still had little difficulties understanding some of the phrases.
I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating. The author did a very good job in writing this piece, I was well engrossed the whole time I was reading. I found no errors in the book and it was well edited. I would recommend this mind gripping book to adults mostly, who love fantasy books as there were some mild use of profanities.
