Review of Tales of Urath: Of Dragons and Drakes
[Following is a volunteer review of "Tales of Urath: Of Dragons and Drakes" by Arthur J Dorety III.]
Tales of Urath: of Dragons and Drakes is an exciting fantasy novel written by Arthur J. Dorety III. The book is the first book in the series about the happenings in Urath. The story focuses on the dragons and drakes that exist in Urath, their origin, and the prophecy given by the Grand Father concerning dragonkind. The story follows the quests of two different sets of people. One is a mercenary now recruited by a powerful Divine, and the other is a powerful half-elven warrior/mage chosen to join the Order of Balance. Alira and Hadron are on a quest to find the pearls of wisdom, while Kavalla and his three dragon companions are on a mission for Asmodeus to find his scepter. Their paths intersect at the Silver Spire, and the aftermath of the battle that goes down there leaves several unknowns for Urath and its inhabitants.
In Tales of Urath, the author builds a fantasy world where there are divine beings and other mortals. It's a world where there are alternate dimensions. There are those who are in charge of keeping the balance to ensure that even in the chaos, there must be order for growth to occur. These keepers of the balance have power over the divine beings in the mortal realm. In the realm of mortals, there are dragons, drakes, elves, humans, and other lower beings all existing together.
My favorite character in the book is Hadron. He is the great storm drake that accompanies Alira on her quest. His story intrigues me. For a young dragon who had not yet reached full adulthood, he showed so much bravery and wisdom, which are admirable qualities. After all the dragons and drakes in the novel, I would say I like Hadron the most, and I look forward to reading more about him in the next book.
I found nothing to dislike about the book; the author's ability to build this world and the characters in it are really commendable. The book also contains some illustrations that were done by the author; this gives the book a colorful look and gives the readers a good description of the characters in the book. I also commend the editor for such wonderful work.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The intense drama, the intriguing characters, and their quests, all culminating in an exciting finale, make this book worthy of a perfect rating. I recommend this book to lovers of fantasy books, and for those who love stories of dragons and quests or stories about the fulfillment of prophecy, this book is a must read.
