Imagine a world where AI rules over humans, where they dictate everything for you, down to what you eat and wear. This was the case in Craig W. Stanfilll's Terms of Service. The book presents a world set in an AI dystopia. The themes include totalitarianism and a quest for personal freedom, among many others. This fictional work presents a future where humans are under the dictatorship of AI. Humans had lost their freedom of choice. Gender and parenting have become largely nonexistent. Humans were reduced to doing only what they were told. Any sign of individuality was considered “selfist” and came with punishments.

The protagonist, Kim, worked for the AI Company, which, together with the hierarchy and the other companies, enforced the rules. As dictated by the mentorship program, Kim was raised by a disciplinary mentor, Zani. The strict mentoring taught her to stay law-abiding. Although burdened with constant emptiness and loneliness, she felt privileged to work for the AI Company. Kim was only a trainer at first, assigned to train the operational automata, a simple device incapable of thinking for itself. The job was a letdown for her, and she sought a promotion. In her sad and lonely life, Kim had some bright spots. She loved dancing, and with her friends from school occasionally meeting up, she was soon pushed into a more adventurous life. Adventure was a risk with the ruling bodies. Moreover, to get her desired promotion, playing by the rules was her best bet. However, this new adventure opened her to deeper truths about the world. Where would these truths lead her? The reader would find out.

The author blew my mind with this excellent piece of art. The characters were well-developed, and the storyline unfolded sequentially and steadily. The story was captivating, and I was eagerly awaiting the next big reveal at every juncture. The writer was sufficiently descriptive without boring the readers with unnecessary information. This made the scenes very vivid and relatable. The entire idea of this novel was carefully thought out. The author left no loose ends.

I had no dislikes for this book. I enjoyed it from start to finish. I also appreciated the use of simple grammar, which made the story easy to understand. The author, although an expert in AI, avoided complicated AI theories that would have made the book complex for readers. The editing was also exceptional, as I noticed no grammatical errors.

I rate this book five out of five stars because of its expert editing, captivating plot, and excellent character growth. I recommend this novel to lovers of science fiction. The book had mild sexual scenes. Readers might want to express caution while reading. However, for mature minds, it is a book well worth the time.
