I am delighted to review RIGHTEOUS GATHERING, Book One of the Righteous Survival EMP Saga, written by Timothy Van Sickel. This is the first of six books. As the author notes, it took six books to tell this story.

This author has read fiction books about the collapse of Western civilization. He found a lack of religious viewpoint in these books. Therefore, he wrote this series of books that tell the story of a born-again Christian man and his family. From their perspective of the world, readers will read how they live and practice as God-loving Christians in this time of chaos and devastation. This is a unique twist to the popular scenarios we read and watch.

It was his central desire in writing this series—that he wanted to show the faith, hopefulness, and courage that are hallmarks of the Christian religion. 75% of America’s population professes to be Christian Americans. Mark and Rebecca own a farm and have been practicing survival food preservation and storage in case of a disaster for years. Their children have grown up and are living in the area. The family considered the farm to be a refuge.

This first book starts on the day of the EMP attack, on September 11, an unknown year, but after the Twin Towers attack, and ends on September 14. On September 11, an EMP attacks America, and there is a nuclear attack on both DC and New York. The US made a counterattack, but America’s power grid is completely gone. Electronics fried, including the electronics in new-style vehicles. As chaos ensues, Mark and Rebecca gather their family.

People stand in lines at the churches for food and shelter. Townspeople bring food and supplies. Livestock donated to the church. Stores and pharmacies looted. Robbery, fires, and murder are taking place in homes, farms, and on the streets. Mark and his family do what they are able, and they prepare to keep their farm and family safe.

The story is frightening, but readers will rejoice in witnessing God's faithfulness. Mark and Rebecca stand steadfast in their faith by offering calmness, gentle guidance, and leadership to their family members. This is a thought-provoking subject and a well-written book. I am already reading Book 2. I found two typos that did not detract from the quality of this book. There is nothing I dislike about this book. Because of the reasons noted above, I gave this book a 5 out of 5 rating.
