Sent to Watch by David J. Lebenstein is a novel that masterfully combines elements of historical fiction and science fiction, set during the period following Napoleon's reign in England. It features a captivating plot where alien observers are sent to keep an eye on pivotal nations, offering a novel perspective on Earth's cultural and technological advancements.

Lebenstein's dedication to historical detail is evident as he skillfully transports readers to the post-Napoleonic era, intertwining the narrative with major historical milestones. The story captures the essence of the era, highlighting the ascent of the Duke of Wellington, the political quest for Catholic emancipation, and George IV's regency. The narrative also delves into the personal calamities of Princess Charlotte and the intricacies of the royal household, painting a comprehensive picture of society's upper echelons as well as its underprivileged classes.

One thing I love about the book is that its instructive aspect is not limited to terrestrial history; it also encompasses American history, the nuances of classical music, and the efforts to consolidate the German-speaking territories in the 19th century. The author's inclusion of physics calculations for the velocities and accelerations of spacecraft lends a credible scientific touch to the fictional tale.

For readers getting acquainted with the Confederation, the book's initial sections proceed with care, and the glossary becomes an essential tool for understanding the characters' complex identities. With no explicit romantic content, the book is a perfect choice for readers who prefer an engaging story centered around plot and character development rather than mature themes. I didn't dislike anything about this book; the book was free from grammatical errors and well edited.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for those who love history. I didn't waste my time reading this book; every time I spent reading it, it was worth it, and I can say from my own perspective that the book is worth investing in.
