Galen Bray escapes from the war-torn Lands of the Princes, using forged papers to travel to Voulhire. Upon arriving in Magnum Caelum, he is warmly welcomed by the harbormaster and the mayor. Galen learns about his inheritance from his great uncle and begins exploring blacksmithing with the help of Rowan, who becomes his mentor and friend. He travels with Rowan to the mining town of Alcovia to acquire white iron for his forge, where they witness the harsh treatment of miners and encounter Herr Blackbath, a powerful mage. Their journey brings them back to Magnum Caelum with a rare material, and they plan to visit the Holy City of Yamon Soul to uncover what it is and its potential.

Meanwhile, King Wilhelm of Voulhire struggles with his rule, facing political manipulations and tensions with Chancellor Midius Maido. During the Feast of Human Hands, the king reflects on his reign and the challenges he faces, particularly the rising threat of the Riva Rohavi, a rebellious group planning to challenge the kingdom from their hidden base in the Graylands. He appoints Lord Eldus Alderman as the lord of Hillport to improve the town after the dark and daunting legacy left by the previous lords, particularly the dark influence of Meldorath. Eldus focuses on rebuilding Hillport's infrastructure and addressing the psychological trauma inflicted on its people. He seeks assistance from priests and psychologists to aid in the town’s recovery, but a dark turn awaits him in "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.

"We are Voulhire" is a thrilling fantasy novel set in the richly detailed fantasy world of Voulhire, a nation filled with magic, political intrigue, and complex characters. The theme of power struggles and the influence of dark magic is predominant. There are many things I liked about the book, but if I were to say it in a nutshell, it would be that this is a very enjoyable and well-written book that keeps one on edge to the very last page.

I like how the characters in this book are diverse and varied, but all interconnected by the same plot. Each of them tells their own story from the first-person perspective, but all these perspectives combine into a single bird's-eye view of Voulhire. I found this very creative. And speaking of characters, they are all well-drawn, with each and every one of them fulfilling a role in the plot even as they have their own ventures and goals. I think Galen's escape to Voulhire isn't just a coincidence, and the special material he gets seems to play a crucial role in making a weapon that would be used in a war in the future. There seems to be much to Meldorath, who is anything but simple. Meldorath is a very complicated and complex character whose end goal I didn't figure out. Part of me tells me he is the main character after all.

Overall, the book's quality is amazing, and I found nothing to dislike about it. I also found no errors or typos, showing that the book was professionally and exceptionally edited. Therefore, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for readers who appreciate epic, character-driven fantasy novels that feature magical elements, detailed lore, and complex political landscapes.
