Voulhire has a long history of power struggles, and a couple of its previous leaders have been toppled from power. One of the most politically troubled parts of Voulhire is Hillport. Meldorath, the former lord of Hillport, was a nightmare to the people. He was arrested by the King and sent to be executed. However, nobody believes he’s dead because his magical powers are still felt in the town. In addition, there are the Riva Rohavi rebels, whose ambition is to destroy Voulhire.

Amidst all this, Galen, a boy from a war-torn Land of the Princes, is lucky to have been named an inheritor of his dead uncle’s wealth in Voulhire. He hasn’t even learned enough about Voulhire as the Caromentis world leaks into the Cosmos kingdom. A disaster is looming.

The book’s infusion of supernatural mysteries, like magic, interested me the most. The author’s creative creation of the kingdom of Voulhire, including a map, made it feel like a real-world physical place. Also, the suspense embedded in the plot was worth attention. I followed the story keenly to avoid missing Meldorath’s whereabouts.

Moreover, I appreciate the author’s amazing character development and scene-switching. At one point, you’re interacting with Voulhire’s political figures; at another, you’re in the streets of Voulhire with Galen and his uncle’s executor. The combination of these draws a vivid picture of the flow of events in the kingdom and how the events are perceived both from the leadership and citizen points of view. There are also action scenes to boost your attention and even send a cold through your nerves, especially the war aggression.

I couldn’t see anything faulty to commend about. The editing was also exceptional, and I applaud the editors for that, given the book’s length. Therefore, I rate Matthew Tysz’s We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend the book to lovers of action and magic fiction.
