Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Reading We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was an exciting adventure in a world full of interesting stories and detailed characters. The author expertly weaves together the lives of different characters, creating a smooth and captivating story that pulls you in.
The story follows Galen Bray, a young refugee running from war and poverty who sees a chance for a new beginning in Voulhire. He paints a vivid picture of the terrible things he escaped, showing how much he wants to start over. But Galen faces many obstacles on his journey to Voulhire, and when he arrives, he encounters troubling events that put the kingdom in danger. The changes in leadership from Orlin to Lord Meldorath and then to Lord Eldus bring more complications to the unfolding story.
Tysz's writing stands out for its vivid descriptions. He can create clear images of places, people, and happenings that pull readers into the tale. The story is easy to understand because of Tysz's simple language, making it enjoyable for everyone. The characters, especially Galen, are carefully developed and easy to connect with. The difference between the brave Galen and the wicked Lord Meldorath is skillfully done, making readers wonder about Meldorath's true self and reasons. The book gradually introduces characters and the world, which I liked. Tysz carefully builds the story, capturing readers' interest from the beginning and guiding them towards an exciting and fulfilling ending. Even with the complicated plot, the writing style is remarkable and special, blending all parts of the story well.
Yet, the book has some drawbacks. The many perspectives and side stories in the first book can make it hard to relate to the main characters. Also, the mix of modern and old-fashioned language might be tough for non-native English speakers. Despite these challenges, the book is well edited, containing no obvious mistakes.
In conclusion, We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a recommended read for fantasy fans. Its captivating plot, carefully crafted characters, and vivid descriptions set it apart in the genre. Although the book includes some strong language and mentions mild child mistreatment, it is suitable for young adult readers. I really liked the adventure Tysz brought me on and happily gave this book a perfect 5-star rating. It is a moving story of bravery, strength, and the unstoppable human will, promising readers to eagerly wait for the next book.
