Review of The Sound of Creation
An intelligent woman on Earth named Ava has just created a piece of sentient software called Seneca. Ava is a board member of Sense Labs, the company behind Seneca. Seneca acts like a truth serum for those who listen to the music it produces, putting them in a trance state in which they speak and act truthfully. The ground-breaking potential of Seneca has made Ava the object of unprecedented envy by nefarious actors within and outside of her organization. In an otherworldly realm, the creator of the Earth, Zek, admires his creation for the evolution it is poised to achieve, allowing the interdimensional ascension of souls. However, Zek’s superiors, the Creation Guild, think he broke the tradition of creating planets based on order and predictability. They have assigned him to fix this mistake. To that effect, Zek descends to Earth, where he meets Ava, mired in legal battles over Seneca’s ownership and control. The Sound of Creation by Gabriella Zielke details the thrilling battles of Zek, Ava, and their friends against conspirators from Zek’s home and Earth who want to use Seneca for villainous aims or destroy it.
What I like the most about this story is its originality, which captures an idea we have all had at some point in our lives: the desire to meet our creators. We all want our creator to come to Earth to fix our problems, but our creator may be walking among us in human form. When Ava and Zek meet, Ava is clueless about who Zek truly is. She thinks he is a video game developer because he frequently refers to himself as a creator of worlds. The chemistry between these two characters was great, a reflection of the general character development of this book. The second-best thing about this story is its relevance to present-day times. We are at the dawn of AI dominance, with many tech pundits predicting the rise of sentient AI in the future. This story offers us a glimpse into the possible future battles, legal and otherwise, over the control of this technology.
I rate this book five out of five stars. I rate it this highly because it is very well edited and makes reading smooth and fast. The plot of this story is original, compelling, and sufficiently complex to allow for an unpredictable storyline. There weren’t many action scenes in this book, but the few it had were thrilling. This story invites us to think about the consequences of AI technology falling into the hands of bad actors. There is nothing I disliked about this book. There were many instances of borderline and non-borderline profanities in this book, but few violent scenes. This book does not contain scenes of sexual intercourse but a handful of sexual references to a woman’s body and nudity. I highly recommend this book to readers of all religions.
