We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz.

The book is the first in a series and explores the evolution of humanity. The world is diverse, and appearances can be deceiving, much like the town of Voulhire. From a distance, it seems great and upstanding, but a closer look reveals hidden complexities. There is a mysterious power at play—some are aware of it, others deny its existence to cope with their fears.

The main character, Galen, comes from the Lands of the Princes, equipped only with survival skills. He soon discovers that his new home is not what he had hoped for. Although it’s better than where he migrated from, it demands a new set of skills. Galen must first learn about the town, its people, religion, and politics.
My favorite character is Lord Edmus, a man of great tenacity and will to protect his people, despite not being able to fend off Meldorath, the most feared name in the land. Meldorath possesses god-like magical powers, causing fear and destruction. His motives and the origins of his power are unknown. What is his plan? Why destroy the people and the land? And how is this connected to the town of Voulhire and Galen, who has come to inherit his uncle's business? Read the book to find out more.

I enjoyed the character introductions and events in the story. The author skillfully weaves each character's story into a cohesive whole. The narrative unfolds like peeling an onion, with each layer revealing more of the story. The author's creative writing and unique names, such as Voulhire, add an extra layer of intrigue.
The suspense keeps the reader's curiosity piqued, making it hard to put the book down. As soon as I finished the last page, I began searching for the next installment in the series. I have no criticisms; the author did justice to the story with top-notch character development. The book is professionally edited with no noticeable errors, making for an enjoyable read.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 for its excellent content. I highly recommend it to adults who enjoy fiction, drama, action, magic, and suspense.

From reading your review, I gather that there must be a lot of suspense. The main character, Galen, has his work cut out for him. Can he save Voulhire from Meldorath? This sounds like a great 5-star book. Great review!
