The Devil Pulls the Strings is a captivating fiction book by J. W. Zarek. It’s about a young musician named Boone who gets caught up in a magical adventure. The story begins when Boone accidentally hurts his friend Flynn during a jousting match at a Renaissance festival. To make up for it, Boone agrees to help Flynn by going to New York to meet his band's patron.

Boone’s arrival in New York brings strange things with it. He witnesses the patron falling to his death, almost hitting the patron’s assistant, Sapphire. Gunmen then start chasing Boone and Sapphire because they’re after some magical sheet music. This sheet music, combined with a special glowing liquid, can summon something dangerous. Boone tries to stop this summoning while facing lots of supernatural challenges. He meets steampunk vampires, the evil witch Baba Yaga, and more. As he goes on his journey, Boone discovers he has special powers that help him fight these threats. Even though he’s afraid of tight spaces, Boone shows courage and humor throughout his journey.

J. W. Zarek does a great job writing a story full of magic, time travel, and mystery. The book's storyline really kept me engaged. I loved the book, no doubt. The book has a lot of action and interesting characters. The only issue I had with this book was that it can be hard to keep track of all the characters and the complicated plot. I also wanted to know more about what happened to Boone’s parents. I found some errors in this book, which shows that it was professionally edited.

Overall, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a great fantasy story that sets up a promising series. I think readers aged twelve to one hundred would enjoy this exciting and engaging book. If you like stories with magic, adventure, and a touch of mystery, you should read The Devil Pulls the Strings. Just be ready for some graphic scenes and complex storylines.
