Infinity: A Crown of Golden Leaves by Catalina DuBois is a unique blend of historical fiction, epic fantasy, and romance. Opening a series of novels that stem from an ancient curse and span epochs and continents, this novel transports us to Rome. It is the first century A.D., and Caesar runs the Roman Empire. Caesar’s only son and heir, Prince Matthaios, is infatuated with Sara, a slave from a foreign land. Prince Matthaios and Sara have been friends since early childhood. As they reached adulthood, their feelings for each other evolved beyond friendship. But the societal rules of ancient Rome devastate the young lovers. Will Matthaios and Sara overcome the obstacles that keep them apart?

Reading Catalina DuBois’ Infinity: A Crown of Golden Leaves, I felt so immersed that I lost track of time and finished the whole novel in one sitting. I liked how Catalina blended Greek myths with magical fantasy and created a superb intrigue that left me with no dull moments as I shadowed Matthaios and Sara through the challenges of war, disease, insanity, scheming in-laws, and corrupt kings. I also liked Catalina’s Caesar, a villain tyrant whose revelations transformed him into a likable and respectable hero. The plot twists were jaw-dropping, and every episode offered a surprise. My favorite scenes were the adventures in Pompeii and the magical discovery in the lost city of Atlantis. The awesome illustrations were a real treat, as they harmoniously blended with the plot.

I enjoyed every aspect of this riveting story, and I found nothing to dislike. This perfectly composed fable was impeccably edited and error-free. So, I rate this delightful read five out of five stars.

I recommend this amazing novel to adults who enjoy historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. Episodes of love-making and violence make this novel unsuitable for junior readers.
