Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies," written by Matthew Tysz, is an enthralling fantasy novel that draws readers into the captivating realm of Voulhire. The story chronicles the odyssey of the main character, Galen Bray, as he flees the chaos of the Land of the Princes in search of a better future. This realm, governed by the four offspring of a wise but malevolent emperor, descended into disarray as the princes were overtaken by avarice, resulting in widespread famine and hardship. Galen's choice to depart from this dire situation sets the foundation for a grand journey.
An aspect of the plot that is particularly notable is the Emperor of Lullabies, a leader with foresight that echoes throughout history. Worried about possible discord among his four sons, he meticulously allocates land, weapons, and armies to each of them, establishing the foundation for their governance and protection. This historical setting forms the backdrop for the intricately depicted story of Voulhire.
The novel's outstanding feature is its well-defined characters. Each member of the varied cast is fully developed, demonstrating their motivations, flaws, and personal development. This contributes to a sense of authenticity within the imaginative setting, engaging readers in the characters' destinies. Furthermore, the book delves into deeper subjects, providing perspectives on authority, morality, and fate. These thematic aspects add complexity to the narrative, elevating it beyond a straightforward fantasy story. The storyline seamlessly integrates moments of reflection, providing readers with opportunities for self-examination.
I did not come across any grammatical mistakes during my reading. As a result, I firmly believe that this book qualifies for an ideal rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Additionally, I could not find anything to criticize about this book. Tysz adeptly allows readers to become acquainted with the various characters throughout the narrative without depending on direct and overt dialogues. Although the book encompasses multiple storylines, the shifts are skillfully carried out, ensuring a seamless progression without overwhelming the reader with unnecessary specifics. The world-building is exceptional and upholds the standards established by Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan. I intend to delve into the rest of the series and anticipate that it will continue to leave a positive impression.
