Matthew Tysz’s We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a novel that weaves the story of Galen, a young blacksmith, into great political and magical conspiracies that unravel across the prosperous and enchanted land of Voulhire. The war-torn Lands of the Princes force Galen to flee, searching for a better life in Voulhire. Upon arrival, however, he inherits his uncle's forge in the town of Magnum Caelum. In this new place, where he has to adapt, Galen makes friends with Rowan, who shows him the intricacies of forging.

Parallel to Galen's journey, the story follows Lord Eldus Alderman, who is newly appointed lord of the strategically important town of Hillport. Eldus, who is brimming with confidence and intentions to revitalize the town, arrives with his family. But there are terrible secrets in Hillport, such as the existence of the evil, powerful, but imprisoned magician, Meldorath. When Meldorath breaks free, things get worse, and Voulhire's stability is put in jeopardy. Eldus finds an old book belonging to the predecessor of Meldorath, Lord Orlin, which hints at secret information that can determine the fate of the land. The political landscape of Voulhire becomes increasingly turbulent as the studies of Eldus reveal dangerous magical insights and a warning about the invasion of two worlds: the physical Cosmos and the magical Caromentis. As people from different backgrounds come together, each plays a key part in the developing story.

I like many aspects of this book. Matthew Tysz easily creates a vivid universe that seamlessly blends elements of fantasy and reality. The descriptions of the landscapes, which range from the bustling city of Soulhire to the mystical realms of Caromentis, are very immersive and captivating. The story has a lot of depth because the world-building, magic system, and politics are all very complicated. Another great feature is how the characters grow and change. Each one has their own personality and history, which makes the story more interesting. The well-written conversation also shows how the characters' voices and personalities come through, which makes the whole reading experience better.

I don't dislike any aspect of this book. Additionally, the pace and structure of the book are two of its biggest strengths. The changing points of view between Galen and other important figures, like Lord Eldus, give a full picture of what is happening. This way of telling a story with many layers kept me interested and made it simple to build tension as I read. The plot never loses its interest thanks to the clever way that secrets are slowly revealed and how the characters' lives are linked to each other. I didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited.

For the reasons I mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to fans of fantasy fiction. It is a richly woven tale of magic, politics, and human growth. The intricate world-building, well-developed characters, and engaging plot make it a satisfying read.
