Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's debut novel, "We are Voulhire, is titled “A New Arrival Under Great Skies.” The work is a mixture of fantasy and political maneuvering that keeps readers on edge till the last page of the story. Taking place within the grand kingdom of Voulhire, the story revolves around the protagonist, Galen Bray, a man forced to leave his home due to warfare in his own country, only to be introduced to a new realm full of underlying issues and lurking shadows.
Tysz consistently intertwines multiple plots and characters, each of which is well thought out to create an intricate narrative of Voulhire. The hatred of Riva Rohavi for the kingdom’s prosperity, the character of the imprisoned wizard on the nearby island—everything contributes to enhancing the mystery and tension that reign in the kingdom.
Of all the aspects of the novel, character development remains one of the most defining features. Galen Bray comes across as a complex character with a strong motivation rooted in gratitude for the new country as well as a commitment to the truth and his friends. King Wilhelm and the crooked Mianoran Knights act as a wonderful foil and a source of complication and moral shading that enriches the narrative.
The narrative in “We are Voulhire” is fluent, and the prose is as captivating as it is refined. The author’s works flow their audience directly into the setting of Voulhire with detailed accounts of mystery, treachery, and valor. The pace is well managed; it makes the plot exciting and full of tension, but at the same time leaves enough space for describing the setting and characters.
From a technical viewpoint, there are no faults in the edition of the book. I have failed to find any type of issue that could show some inconsistency; this speaks volumes about the author’s work and dedication to making a perfect book for reading. The text is easy to follow due to the author’s simple and unadorned language, which does not interfere with the development of the plot.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies” to readers who are interested in both fantasy and political prose. This is a well-written story full of twists, interesting characters, and an unforgettable setting, created by Matthew Tysz. Without a doubt, it deserves five stars for the wonderful idea and excellent implementation.
