Heaven and Earth portrays how the Government of the United States tries to maintain control over the Heavens and the Earth . Actually, this is what leads two of the characters in the book, Olga and Dr Welch, get to meet. Their paths cross at a meeting for the best scientists and engineers and later on, Olga and Dr Welch realize that their projects are linked to the maintenance of control of the Heavens and the Earth.
Heaven and Earth is a scientific fiction book with its main as Gavilán, Olga, Nivla, Dr Welch and Sam. Gavilán and Olga are friends who embark as a mission which proves to be dangerous especially now that Olga has caught the eye of a government offices not necessarily in a good way, who holds a lot of power and becomes a target, with her life being in danger. Their mission is to expose that there is alien life and that the government has been keeping this a secret, even though they knew about it.
Dr Welch and Sam have been researching on Cadmium and its dangerous effects on humans and they happen to meet Olga at the meeting in Houston and they pique each other's interest. Nilva is an alien who is seeking his dead brother's remains and enlists the help of Olga and Gavilán. All these characters paths cross and they unravel quite a number of secrets by the government.
Arturo Riojas expounds on a few concepts such as the theory of cause and affect which plays a major role in the shaping of the book. The main character - Olga, is a firm believer in cause and effect hence it is mostly highlighted in the book. Other concepts include the theory of balance, blind compliance vs defiance and there are also disguised truths and how everything is not how it seems.
The book has some very interesting aspects about it. The Cadmium facts found at the end of each chapter are very informative. Also some of the scenes in the book are so fascinating, especially Nivla's teachings of which made me feel as if I was in some astronomy lesson. I also loved how the setting wasn't just Earth but there was an interchange of scenery between Treretum and Earth. There is also a lot of humor in the book that makes the book very enjoyable.
The author has done an excellent job and this is why I rate it a 4 out of 4.
