Infinity by Catalina DuBois details a turbulent romance story between a slave girl, Sara, and a Roman prince, Matthaios. This love story is captivating because it involves a black girl and a white-looking man in an era where slavery and racism against black people were prevalent in many parts of the world. Sara and Mathaios's stories stand out more because they defy the customs of the land, which state that a highborn should never be in a romantic relationship with his servants. The challenges Matthaios would have to overcome to be with Sara and the potential risk to his father’s reputation and kingdom far outweigh the benefits of spending time with the woman he truly loves. Will Matthaios keep living in his father’s shadow, marrying someone else to preserve the kingdom and doing tasks he doesn’t like, or will he follow his heart and overcome the taboo linked to his love for Sara? Find out what happens next and the origin of Sara’s presence in the palace by grabbing a copy of this book.

The most captivating aspect of this book, surpassing its beautiful romantic tales, lies in the multiple intriguing and complex relationships between the characters, reminiscent of those often found in real life, movies, or literary works. For example, Titus, Matthaios’s father, is an authoritative father and ruler who tries to model his son after him, caring less for his desire and regularly chastising him for not being man enough, despite his son having a somewhat opposite temperament to his or having another vision of leadership. As we delve deeper into Titus’s story, we understand how his past, living under authoritative parents, influenced his present behaviour. This theme is a reminder that wicked people often have a broken past.

I can tell from this book that the author is highly skilled at narrating romance stories. Her choice of words and narrative style captivate you and make you want to fall in love. She made brilliant use of peptic language and metaphors that are entertaining and enthralling. The cartoonish illustrations of key characters at the start of each chapter were so beautiful and professionally done that they created an immersive experience. This book offers a decent amount of thrill, action, and violence that you expect to see in stories involving the Roman Empire, such as brutal gladiator fights.

I rate this book five out of five stars. I enjoyed many things about this book, such as its impeccable editing, the stunning depictions of the key characters, the author’s charming narrative style, and the themes of the complex relationship dynamics existing in palace life. I have nothing negative to say about this book. This book featured multiple instances of non-borderline profanities. There are a handful of sexual scenes in this book, but the author left out the explicit details of intercourse. The violence in this book ranges from mild to extreme. I highly recommend this book to readers of all religions looking to read a good romantic story with suspense and some action.
