[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Wave Links" by Randall Boleyn.]
"Wave Links" by Randall Boleyn is a thrilling dive into the world of psychic phenomena, mysterious heritages, and relentless pursuit. The novel is about Llad Fleck, a young man who suddenly finds himself at the center of a deadly chase because of his extraordinary lineage, which he did not know of. The story is full of suspense, supernatural elements, and the quest for self-discovery.
The story starts with a series of murders that abruptly disrupt Llad's mundane life, pushing him into the orbit of Dr. Jemma Rask, an eccentric parapsychologist. Dr. Rask tells Llad that she has been waiting for him for many years, excited to help him understand and control the special abilities she believes he has inherited. As Llad deals with these discoveries, a powerful research institute in London hunts him down, seeing him as a major threat.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was its intricate plot and the world the author created. Boleyn excels in building suspense, making it difficult for readers to put the book down as they follow Llad’s journey across various locales in search of answers. The recurring dreams of a mysterious girl are interesting, keeping readers intrigued about her connection to Llad's powers.
However, one significant drawback of this book is the complexity of the dialogue. There are intentional grammatical errors to create colloquial conversations. However, for those unfamiliar with the slang, it's difficult to understand. Also, some parts were too long and more boring compared to others. This can disrupt the flow of the story and leave readers feeling lost or frustrated. Simplifying the dialogue or providing clearer explanations within the context of the conversation could enhance the reading experience. Honestly, I struggled to finish this book.
I rate "Wave Links" 3 out of 5 stars, and the reasons are above. I've found several errors while reading, and these could be annoying to some. This book is ideal for those who enjoy delving into deep, multi-layered stories and don't mind navigating through a bit of challenging language and pacing. It also can be a good read for fans of supernatural thrillers.
