We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in a new fantasy series that will, according to the author, have nine books. The author introduces many of the characters by following Galen's journey from his lowly birthplace to the capital of the kingdom, as well as various other characters, including the kindly monarch of Voulhire and Lord Eldus. As the novel progresses, we learn that there are some unscrupulous persons in the king's court, as well as the frightening presence of Meldorath, a great mage who appears to be a threat to the kingdom with his powerful incantations. There is also a powerful neighboring kingdom that has been building up its armed forces; the kingdom of Voulhire's sovereignty is now threatened. The novel starts off so quickly and brutally that I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish it, let alone like it. However, the tone changes so quickly from chapter to chapter with new characters. Voulhire is a kingdom in the Cosmo, a physics universe, and a human-populated globe. Voulhire consists of cities with unique personalities. Soulhire is the capital, where King Wilhelm lives.Yamon Soul, the sacred city; Magnum Caelum, a town with rocks; and Hillport, the picturesque impoverished fishing village with a painful past, as well as other towns, countries, and even worlds and universes, are introduced. The author includes vital information that progresses the tale. The combination of drama and action makes for a more fascinating experience. If you enjoy fantasy novels, I highly recommend this book to you. This is a must read. I like how Tysz draws his characters extremely well, and you find yourself smiling at Galen's naivety, laughing at Rowan's off-color quips, and desperately praying that Eldus finds his family before it's too late. After a successful read and review, I would like to note that the book was well edited; I did not find any errors. I would gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because I didn't find anything to dislike about the book. The was enjoyable.
