David J. Lebenstein's science fiction book, Sent to Watch takes readers on a journey through many planets. The story primarily revolves around the "Confederation of Civilized Planets," a group of 27 distinct planets collaborating to maintain peace and order in the galaxy. Agents and military personnel from these planets are sent on secret missions to worlds that are like Earth, such as Earth 48, which is a version of our own planet. The story jumps between modern technologies and alien spying, as well as historical events like the Battle of Waterloo.

As the story goes on, we see the agents deal with complex political situations and make important choices that could change the course of history. The book has many alien species with distinct cultures and goals, making planet conflicts more interesting. The characters are put in dangerous situations where they have to deal with threats from both humans and aliens while trying to keep their home planets safe from invasions or political unrest. There are many turns and twists in the story.

I like many aspects of this book. One of the things I really liked about this book is its rich world-building. The author builds a detailed universe with different planets, species, and technologies that make the story feel immersive and believable. I also liked the way the book combines history with science fiction, using real events like the Battle of Waterloo to anchor the story in a familiar world while introducing futuristic elements. The characters are well-developed, and their relationships add emotional depth to the story.

The novel's pace was another element that appealed to me. In a short amount of time, the story moves quickly and keeps you guessing. The author's writing style is clear and straightforward, making it simple for readers to follow the complicated plot. I appreciate how the book explores themes of loyalty, duty, and the consequences of power. This book gave me things to think about even after I finished reading it. I don't dislike any aspect of this book. I noticed only a few mistakes while reading this book, which shows that it was professionally edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I stated above. I recommend Sent to Watch to anyone who enjoys science fiction, especially those who like narratives that feature interplanetary concepts.
