We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a work of fiction by Matthew Tysz. In the opening sections of this book, Galen Bray escapes from The Lands of the Princes, a set of war-torn islands ruled by corrupt leaders. He boards a ship heading to Voulhire at the invitation of his late uncle to take over the family forge in Magnum Caelum. Meanwhile, far in the city of Hillport and its surroundings, a powerful mage named Meldorath is causing havoc. Lord Orlin, the local noble, is embroiled in a power struggle and has committed some very serious crimes. Meldorath, after seizing control of Hillport, is overthrown and imprisoned. Despite being sentenced to death, rumors circulate that Meldorath's execution may not have gone as planned.

In the meantime, Galen Bray arrives in Voulhire and begins to assume responsibility for his newly inherited forge. With guidance from his uncle's executor, Rowan, he starts to learn the ropes of his new life. However, he quickly becomes entangled in the complexities and intrigues of Voulhire. What happens next is something the reader must experience firsthand rather than through a summary. But danger looms not only in Voulhire but also in the neighboring land of Caromentis as Galen grapples with his new identity and the dark events that led him to accept this inheritance.

The character development is equally commendable; no character is hastily sketched, and there is no excessive or unwarranted influx of characters. The story is narrated primarily from a third-person perspective, but when the focus shifts to Galen, it sometimes adopts a more personal tone. I have no complaints about this book. It is polished from beginning to end and held together in all the right places. The plot, characters, and flow of the story align beautifully with one another.

As I delighted with this very well-written story, I found no grammatical errors to distract me, which suggests that the book was well edited. It earns a 5 out of 5 rating from me. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction, adventure, or mystery epics—or really, any good book.
