Review of In the Heart of the Linden Wood
In the Heart of the Linden Wood by Ekta R. Garg is about King Christopher, who inherited the throne from his wicked father, the late King Vincent. As a child, the late King Vincent instilled fear in Christopher, which affected his self-confidence. Fortunately for him, he now has a wife, Queen Lilly, who believes in him and supports him as the new king of Linden. But suddenly, Christopher was thrown into a grief that nearly destroyed him. While in grief, troubling news arrives about a major threat to his kingdom's source of trade, for which he has to find a solution.
I liked and enjoyed various aspects of this book. The first is that while I was reading, the story felt as if I were watching classical historical movies where there were quite several interesting routines in the palaces and castles. One that I usually find interesting is the door guards that usually stay by the doors in the palace. I also find the depth of the relationship between King Christopher and his wife, Queen Lily, so emotional. This is an example of the notion that behind every successful man, there is always a woman. I felt a sense of suspense while reading. An example of such a moment that kept me on the edge of my seat was when the queen was in labour in the birth chamber, with a lot of complications. I was eager to know if she would be able to give birth successfully. I also wished the present-day style of leadership could go back to the old way, as described in the story. An example of this is how the lumber guild workers were able to make their complaints directly to the king, who is the head of government, instead of using proxies, as we do in our democratic institutions today.
I will rate this book five out of five stars due to the things I stated that I liked about the book above. I am also rating this book highly for its attractive cover design. It was one of the reasons I got interested in picking up the book. The book designer did a good job. Lastly, the different unexpected plot twists in the book make me rate the author's creativity highly. An example of such a twist was when the king met Geraldine again after she was dismissed.
I did not notice any negatives while reading; the author's writing style is fluid, and the book was also professionally edited. I will recommend the book to lovers of classical fantasy stories. Lovers of adventure, mystery, and magic will enjoy reading the book.
