Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The story of Hillport and Voulhire is a captivating tale that blends political corruption, mystical powers, and the resilient human spirit. It begins with Judge Eldus being appointed as the new leader of Hillport, a Voulhirian town with a troubled history. Although King Wilhelm assures everyone that the former lord, Meldorath, is gone, his influence still lingers. Additionally, Hillport faces danger from the notorious rebel group, Riva Rohavi, who are known for their looting and destruction.
During this turmoil, a young man named Galen Bray comes to Magnum Caelum to inherit his late uncle's forge and learn the craft. Together with his companions, Galen begins a journey of self-discovery but soon faces strong and dangerous enemies.
Mr. Tysz has excelled at creating a captivating story with well-developed characters and a richly detailed world that draws readers into Voulhire. From the start, the author's careful attention to detail is clear, especially with a map of Voulhire that helps readers visualise the country and its towns. The book combines magic, action, and adventure, keeping readers hooked from the first page to the last.
In this story, readers will experience themes such as the incredible determination of the human spirit to triumph over adversity, along with the courage and persistence required to overcome any challenges. It takes readers on an exciting journey through a fantasy world where the line between good and evil is unclear and the fate of whole communities is often at risk. As the characters navigate the complex and perilous land of Voulhire, they face trials that test their strength, bravery, and determination.
The novel is split into sections focussing on different characters, allowing the reader to see the story from multiple viewpoints. Galen, the main character, is a likeable person with a genuine and respectful personality, but his painful past from the wars in his homeland makes him prone to trusting the wrong people. Despite this, the story is full of suspense and tension, with a dark conspiracy at its center. The book features a wide range of characters, from honourable to more self-serving ones. Rowan, one of Galen’s friends, stood out to me for his sharp humor. The Riva Rohavi, with their brutal ways, brought a chilling element to the story that kept me on edge the whole time.If you are a fantasy fan, then Matthew Tysz’s novel, Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, is definitely worth reading and I highly recommend it. With its complex storyline, well-developed characters, and richly imagined world, this book is sure to captivate any fantasy reader. The editing is flawless, as I found no mistakes while reading. Since I have no complaints about the book, I am giving it a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 star.
